A random collection of over 1994 books and audiobooks authored by or about my transgender, intersex sisters, and gender-nonconforming persons all over the world. I read some of them, and I was inspired by some of them. I met some of the authors and heroines, some of them are my best friends, and I had the pleasure and honor of interviewing some of them. If you know of any transgender biography that I have not covered yet, please let me know.

Sarah Jessica Zucca - Finalmente io

Original title: "Finalmente io" (Finally me) by Sarah Jessica Zucca.

Finalmente io by Sarah Jessica Zucca is a deeply personal and moving work that brings to light the complex and often misunderstood subject of gender dysphoria. Through her own story, Sarah J invites readers to enter a world where identity and biology do not coincide, where the soul and the body speak two different languages, and where the journey toward alignment becomes both an act of courage and self-love. The author’s intention is not only to narrate her transformation but also to educate, to clear away the misconceptions that surround what she rightly describes as a medical condition present from birth.

Gender dysphoria, as Sarah explains, is not a whim or a phase. It is a condition in which a person finds themselves imprisoned in a body that does not reflect their true essence. A child may appear outwardly healthy, but within them lives a soul that does not correspond to the gender assigned at birth. For many, this incongruity is evident from the earliest years, expressed through gestures, preferences, and an unshakeable sense that something essential does not match. Although these cases are relatively rare, they carry profound implications for those who experience them.

Sarah J highlights how medicine and science, through the dedicated work of psychotherapists and endocrinologists, have developed ways to alleviate this suffering. Hormone therapy tailored to each individual has become a vital step in allowing transgender people to live fully as the men or women they truly are. This process does not create a new person but allows the authentic self, long confined by societal expectations and biological misunderstanding, to finally emerge.

Born in Cagliari in 1965, Sarah Jessica Zucca is today an accomplished Project Manager working in the fields of real estate, construction, telecommunications, and renewable energy. Yet behind her professional success lies a story marked by perseverance and struggle. Her journey of gender affirmation began officially in 2021, but the roots of her identity trace back to when she was only nine years old. During those early years, she faced therapeutic interventions and external pressures that delayed her ability to express her true self. The road was long and often painful, filled with moments of doubt and resistance, but it was also illuminated by an unyielding determination to live authentically.

On March 8, 2023, fittingly on International Women’s Day, the Cagliari court issued a ruling recognizing Sarah as a woman, following her medical and social transition. This decision marked not only a legal acknowledgment but also an emotional victory that closed a chapter of inner conflict. Just a few months later, on June 1, 2023, she received her new identification documents, an event that symbolized the final step of her affirmation. The title of her book, Finalmente io, “Finally me”, captures that moment of liberation, the culmination of decades of waiting to live truthfully and proudly in her own identity.

In this autobiographical work, Sarah opens her heart to readers, guiding them through the most intimate moments of her transformation. Her writing is honest and unpretentious, infused with both vulnerability and strength. She speaks about the doubts, the fears, and the social prejudices that still surround transgender people, but also about the profound joy that comes from self-recognition. Every page reflects her desire to bring clarity to a topic too often obscured by misinformation and bias. Through her words, Sarah dismantles false myths and replaces them with understanding and compassion.

Finalmente io is not merely a personal story; it is a declaration of identity, a testament to resilience, and a contribution to the ongoing dialogue about human rights and dignity. Sarah J shows that gender dysphoria is not an abstract theory but a lived reality that medicine and society must continue to address with empathy and respect. Her journey reminds readers that authenticity is not something granted by others but something earned through courage and self-awareness.

At the end of her narrative, Sarah’s voice rings with triumph and serenity. After years of struggle, she can finally say those simple but powerful words: “Finally me.” Her book stands as both an act of testimony and an invitation to understanding, encouraging all who read it to recognize the humanity that unites us beyond gender, appearance, or expectation. It is a story of truth, healing, and the unbreakable strength of being oneself.
