The first edition of the book was published in 2013. This is how Kaitlin introduced the book: "Born breached, alcoholic, drug addicted, and transgendered, the first steps out of my mother’s womb were the beginning of a world full of guilt, shame, anxiety, anger, fear, and pride, all of which had to be overcome in order to live a life of serenity.
It took fifty-three years to approach these challenges as each step was very painful. However, on the other side of the pain came joy, peace, and happiness. It’s a never-ending process but one of great fulfillment. I could have chosen the easy way out and continued with my alcohol and drug use, never disclosing that I was born female living in the body of a man, living life as a lie. But the painstaking steps have allowed the misery to slowly release as I became willing to speak the truths buried so deeply within.
The revised 2016 version had the following intro: "I transitioned on the job while working for Philip Morris in a high profile, managerial position. I also founded the James River Transgender Society in Virginia. This book explains the physical and emotional challenges that I traveled on the road of becoming my true self. Today, I am a 60-year-old woman and grandmother, living a normal life in the proper body."
Kaitlin Riordan is also a transgender author of the book "Bondage of Self". In an interview with The Fight Magazine, Kaitlin Sine Riordan shared her experiences as a transgender person and the challenges she faced while seeking treatment for substance abuse. She has also spoken to correctional staff at facilities such as Henrico County Sheriff's Office in Virginia about the importance of addressing transgender issues.
