A random collection of over 1910 books and audiobooks authored by or about my transgender, intersex sisters, and gender-nonconforming persons all over the world. I read some of them, and I was inspired by some of them. I met some of the authors and heroines, some of them are my best friends, and I had the pleasure and honor of interviewing some of them. If you know of any transgender biography that I have not covered yet, please let me know.

Pamela Helen Bonert - Der kalifornische Alptraum oder...

Original title: "Der kalifornische Alptraum oder Wie ich glücklich wurde" (The Californian Nightmare or How I Became Happy) by Pamela Helen Bonert.

Pamela Helen Bonert (born Armin Bonert on December 17, 1950) is an author and the first transgender female soldier in the German Bundeswehr to have undergone gender reassignment surgery while serving in the army. She was already an Air Force officer with the rank of captain when she finally had her gender reassignment surgery in 1999 due to her trans identity.

The management of the Bundeswehr reacted by transferring her to the medical regiment as before 2001 the careers for women in the Bundeswehr were only open in the medical and military music service and thus Bonert could continue to pursue her military profession.

It was not until October 2003 that the Federal Office of Defence Administration issued the procedural instruction on the subject of "man-to-woman transsexuals", in which principles of the fitness for military service of transsexuals were regulated. Initially, Bonert was employed in the Medical Academy of the Bundeswehr and from 2002 until her retirement in the Medical Office of the Bundeswehr. She retired in 2004.

She describes her story in her autobiographical book The Californian Nightmare or How I Became Happy, which is intended to serve as a guide for transgender people and their relatives. Originally, the book was to be published in 1998 under the title "Glücklich", as determined by the publisher. Bohnert rejected this as from her point of view it was an inappropriate title and she self-published her book in 2000 because of other differences with the publisher. In addition, she described her experiences in February 2004 on the television talk show of Jürgen Fliege.
