Micha Ela tells her life story as a transsexual woman.
As a gay boy in the northern German provinces, "Michi" experienced all the problems of being gay in society in the 1980s.
The foster family in which Michi is growing up wants to cure him of his "disease" by committing him to a psychiatric ward. He then ends up in a youth center in Osnabrück and experiences his coming out here, still very naive.
After graduating from high school, Michael worked as a dancer in various theaters until he finally realized that he was actually a dancer and therefore no longer wanted to dance male roles.
As a prima ballerina, however, he did not get an engagement, left the theater and from then on danced as a travesty artist in the cabaret of his then partner on Lake Constance.
This is also where the final transformation from Michael to Michaela begins.
Various relationships and numerous different commitments now determine Michaela's life. She tours from city to city, runs a cabaret as manager for a while and has to give up this position after a terrible incident.
During a medical examination, Michaela finds out that she is HIV positive, has AIDS and only has six weeks to live.
Her illness forces Michaela to give up dancing, she works in a call center and now experiences the completely different problems of middle-class life.
With an unshakable will to live, positive thinking and a lot of humor, Michaela masters every misfortune she experiences.
All the obstacles that life puts in her way, HIV, unhappy relationships, etc. are just challenges for Michaela, which she masters with flying colours.
