I read some of them, and I was inspired by some of them. I met some of the authors and heroines, some of them are my best friends, and I had the pleasure and honor of interviewing some of them. At the time, Lou was still living with her children and their mother when she first became aware of her attraction to men, a subtle awakening that would soon lead to a far deeper discovery: her own femininity. The moment of clarity struck her like lightning, "I’m a woman!", and with it came a profound upheaval that would forever alter the course of her life. From that instant, everything shifted: her relationships with family, friends, and lovers all took on new meanings, new challenges, and new hopes.
But this revelation also sparked an intense introspection. How could this be? Was it a passing phase, or had this truth always been buried within her? How could she trace the delicate threads of her femininity woven throughout her past? These questions marked the beginning of a new journey, one of transformation, courage, and self-discovery, as Lou embarked on her transition from man to woman.
She stepped into a world previously unknown, both daunting and magnetic. The experience awakened her to the complex realities faced by trans people, the scrutiny, the misunderstandings, the social obstacles, and the profound strength required to navigate them. How does one redraw the blueprint of a life when every line has changed?
Four years after completing her transition, Lou finds herself reflecting deeply on her journey, the path she has traveled and the place she now holds in the world. It is a story of resilience, identity, and the enduring quest to live authentically.
Born in Paris, where she still lives and works, Maëlle Marvaud discovered her passion for photography at the age of 15. Over the years, she continued to hone her craft as a self-taught photographer, developing a sharp and thoughtful eye for visual storytelling well into the 2000s. Alongside her professional work as a psychotherapist, she pursued formal training at the Atelier des Beaux-Arts de Paris, specializing in photography. Her artistic focus naturally gravitated toward subjects close to her heart, most notably, issues surrounding gender identity and expression. Her project "Transidentités" began six years ago, evolving in parallel with the writing of her memoir "Lou T.:A Transgender Woman of the 21st Century," which was published in 2019 by Éditions du Moulin-à-Vent. The two works reflect her deep personal commitment to amplifying transgender voices through both words and images. In June 2022, Maëlle brought her vision to life with the opening of Galerie M in Paris, a space dedicated to showcasing socially engaged contemporary art.
