Marlene Wayar - Furia travesti

Original title: "Furia travesti: Diccionario Travesti de la T a la T" (Travesti Fury: Travesti Dictionary from la T to la T) by Marlene Wayar.

"This book is a rallying cry against all those discourses that seek to deny transvestite identity, subsuming it in one of the two poles of the hetero binarism. Being transgender, says the author, has nothing to do with being born in a wrong body that needs to be intervened to normalize, make it thinkable, digestible for the binary stomach of a society that is as two-minded as it is hypocritical.

This book is also about the life that is presented for the first time; An experience that is related to the support of militancy in favor of the rights of transgenders as a group. It is, therefore, a cry that is both individual and collective. With a sharp tongue, clarity, and fierceness, Marlene Wayar weaves in these pages a reasoned and lucid exposition of what it means to be a Latin American transgender today: expelled even as children by the institution of the family, they will be migrants all their lives, marginalized, prostitutes. But also beings of enormous charm and beauty, intelligence, attractiveness, and seduction. Like all of them, all of them: they are what they are. And this book, for the first time, gives them the place they deserve."

The audience applauds and does not yet know that they have just attended the first performance of Coccinelle, an artist who will soon have a string of triumphs on stages around the world. However, nothing predestined Jacqueline Charlotte Dufresnoy, born Jacques Charles in a modest family and raised by a violent and authoritarian father, to shine in the spotlight.

At a time when cross-dressing is punishable by law and military service is still in place, Coccinelle invents a new way to live her life freely, and traces her own path as a liberated woman. Defended by lawyer Robert Badinter, Coccinelle became the first French public figure to officially change her marital status and performed on stages around the world, from Syndey to Rio de Janeiro via Dakar. Douglas Thompson - Inside Out: The Extraordinary Legacy of...

Full title: "Inside Out: The Extraordinary Legacy of April Ashley: The boy who became the most famous woman in the world" by Douglas Thompson.

It was the first biography of April Ashley, written by Duncan Fallowell and April Ashley herself.

"April Ashley was a trailblazing figure in the history of transgender rights and advocacy. Born in 1935 in Liverpool, Ashley was assigned male at birth, but knew from a young age that she identified as a woman. At the age of sixteen, April left home and began her journey of self-discovery, eventually transitioning and undergoing gender-reassignment surgery in 1960.

She became one of the first British people to undergo the procedure, which was illegal at the time in the UK. April's transition was met with both admiration and hostility from the media and the public. Despite facing discrimination and transphobia, she remained dedicated to promoting trans visibility and acceptance. In the 1960s, she moved to Paris and became a successful model and cabaret performer, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Salvador Dalí and Jean Cocteau.

She was known for her work with famous clients, including Susana Vieira and Marilia Pêra. Ruddy Pinho made a significant contribution to the hairdressing industry, including creating the “lioness cut” that marked the career of singer Simone Bittencourt and was widely copied in the 1980s.

Juno Roche - Trans Power: Own Your Gender

Full title: "Trans Power: Own Your Gender" by Juno Roche.

"'All those layers of expectation that are thrust upon us; boy, masculine, femme, transgender, sexual, woman, real, are such a weight to carry round. I feel transgressive. I feel hybrid. I feel trans.' In this radical and emotionally raw book, Juno Roche pushes the boundaries of trans representation by redefining 'trans' as an identity with its own power and strength, that goes beyond the gender binary.

Through intimate conversations with leading and influential figures in the trans community, such as Kate Bornstein, Travis Alabanza, Josephine Jones, Glamrou and E-J Scott, this book highlights the diversity of trans identities and experiences with regard to love, bodies, sex, race and class, and urges trans people - and the world at large - to embrace a 'trans' identity as something that offers empowerment and autonomy. Powerfully written, and with humour and advice throughout, this book is essential reading for anyone interested in the future of gender and how we identify ourselves."

Inès Adler - Frau mit Nebenwirkungen

Original title: "Frau mit Nebenwirkungen: Transgender ohne Wahlfreiheit" (Woman with side effects: transgender without freedom of choice) by Inès Adler.

"She was an engineer, she was a dominatrix. She was a man, she was a woman. Macho and girl. All avenues were open to her, but she lacked courage. For over sixty years, my gender boundaries were blurred. Like hostile countries, constantly at war with each other.

Even as a child, I wanted to wear girls' clothes and quickly had to learn to hide my true self. The parents: hopelessly overwhelmed. In Germany's economic miracle, you had to achieve something. Children had to function. Therefore, this life story turns out to be a long, adventurous roller coaster ride. Due to a lack of enlightening information, I thought I was sick at some point.

Akkai Padmashali - A Small Step in a Long Journey

Full title: "A Small Step in a Long Journey: A Memoir by Akkai Padmashali" by Akkai Padmashali.

"More than just an autobiography or memoir, this is a powerful and passionate account of one woman’s battle to claim her identity and place in society. In A Small Step in a Long Journey, Akkai Padmashali, a trans rights activist and campaigner, thinker, writer, poet, and actor, throws out a challenge to society, demanding not sympathy or pity but acceptance, recognition, and respect.

Brutally honest and self-critical, Akkai’s writing is a political act in which she lays bare the hurt, humiliation, confusion, insult, love, solidarity and joy that went into making her who she is today. Time and again Akkai asserts that her story is not just her story. What we call gender and sexuality, she says, ‘is a journey we all travel’, one that connects our personal and political lives, and one that helps us to face difficult, disturbing questions about prejudice and privilege."

Alison Li - Wondrous Transformations

Full title: "Wondrous Transformations: A Maverick Physician, the Science of Hormones, and the Birth of the Transgender Revolution" by Alison Li.

He was a physician to transgender pioneers such as Christine Jorgensen, the 1950s "Ex-GI" turned "Blonde Beauty" media sensation, and in turn, she and other collaborators helped to shape Benjamin's influential 1966 book, The Transsexual Phenomenon. Alison Li's much-needed biography of Benjamin chronicles his passion for hormones and his lifelong interest in sexology.

Drawing from extensive research in archival documents, secondary sources, and interviews, Li tells the story of Benjamin's early ventures in gerontology and his later work with over a thousand transgender patients. Benjamin's contributions to treatment, education, research, and networking helped to create the institutional foundations of transgender medicine. Moreover, they set the stage for a radical reconsideration of gender identity, challenging us to reflect upon what it is to be male or female and to envision moving beyond these long-held categories."

Thirteen voices put body, affection and writing to try to provide answers to these and other questions in this collaborative volume, (h)amor 6_trans. A diverse set of reflections with the same demand, that of a full life, one that deserves to be lived and mourned."

Gwen Benaway - Holy WIld

Full title: "Holy Wild" by Gwen Benaway.

"In her third collection of poetry, Holy Wild, Gwen Benaway explores the complexities of being an Indigenous trans woman in expansive lyric poems. She holds up the Indigenous trans body as a site of struggle, liberation, and beauty. A confessional poet, Benaway narrates her sexual and romantic intimacies with partners as well as her work to navigate the daily burden of transphobia and violence.

She examines the intersections of Indigenous and trans experience through autobiographical poems and continues to speak to the legacy of abuse, violence, and colonial erasure that defines Canada. Her sparse lines, interwoven with English and Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe), illustrate the wonder and power of Indigenous trans womanhood in motion. Holy Wild is not an easy book, as Benaway refuses to give any simple answers, but it is a profoundly vibrant and beautiful work filled with a transcendent grace."

Gwen Benaway is a Canadian poet, writer, and advocate for the rights of transgender and Indigenous people. She was born in Wingham, Ontario, Canada, and is of Anishinaabe and Métis descent. Naty Menstrual - Poesía Recuperada

Original title: "Poesía Recuperada" (Recovered Poetry) by Naty Menstrual.

This is Naty Menstrual's third book, entitled "Poesía recuperada", a material that compiles her initial texts created before her official birth as Naty. "These are things I wrote before I cross-dressed, before I was Naty," she said. It is the compendium of "secret" poems, which she herself never believed could be published, but which today she decided to present to society.

"If I were a woman, I would have a thousand children, I would have a thousand children with a thousand different men. If I were a woman, I'd have a thousand men,  With a thousand red velvet kisses,  Tangled on my lips,  No rush and no time,  Walking through me. If I were a woman, I'd sleep among a thousand bodies,  Entangled in a thousand tentacles of love,  With passion, with pain, and with sweat,  Sweats of a thousand men skin, smells, licks, kisses."

Freiya Benson - Trans Love

Full title: "Trans Love: An Anthology of Transgender and Non-Binary Voices" by Freiya Benson.

"A ground-breaking anthology of writing on the topic of love, written by trans and non-binary people who share their thoughts, feelings and experiences of love in all its guises. The collection spans familial, romantic, spiritual and self-love as well as friendships and ally love, to provide a broad and honest understanding of how trans people navigate love and relationships, and what love means to them.

Reclaiming what love means to trans people, this book provokes conversations that are not reflected in what is presently written, moving the narrative around trans identities away from sensationalism. At once intimate and radical, and both humorous and poignant, this book is for anyone who has loved, who is in love, and who is looking for love."

Ayran N - A way to Queer (Una senda hacia lo singular)

Original title: "A way to Queer (Una senda hacia lo singular): Siempre diferente. Siempre rebelde. Siempre yo" (A way to Queer: Always different. Always rebellious. Always me) by Ayran N.

"Some days I look like a boy who over the years has realized that he feels better functioning as a girl, and other days I feel like a girl trapped in a boy's body. The difference is subtle, but it exists. And sow doubt...

This is how Ayran begins in her particular declaration of intentions. This work collects the written entries from her weblog, from its creation until its final abandonment. In the book, we will experience with straying frankness the daily drama that lives a person with gender dysphoria, as well as the desire to find a place in a society that is cruel and intolerant to those who cannot fit into its solid stereotyped labels."

They were criminalized and prevented from following their traditional profession, wearing female attire or performing in public and reduced to penury and ignominy. This situation continued in free India till 2014, when the Supreme Court passed its momentous judgement.

Malene Andreasen - At blive et helt menneske

Original title: "At blive et helt menneske: Om mit liv og min lange rejse mod erkendelsen" (To become a whole person: About my life and my long journey towards realization) by Malene Andreasen.

"The author, Malene Andreasen writes about her autobiography: I have made a decision to change my life, do away with the feeling of being ashamed of myself. It is not an easy process, everything that we people with our gender do not think about, but take for granted, must be done away with. The shame and thus actually less self-esteem for not having the standpoint that others have and act on. Every corner in me must be turned and every corner must be accepted as the woman I am. It's actually a pretty tough process that requires courage. I have a DUTY to make the most of my life. I have the RIGHT to be greeted for who I am."

Stephanie Mott - God Loves Everyone (And Me)

Full title: "God Loves Everyone (And Me)" by Stephanie Mott.

She served as the vice chair of Equality Kansas, chaired the LGBTQ caucus of the Kansas Democrats and founded the Kansas Statewide Transgender Equality Project. "This is the sixth part of my ever-growing diary and I highly recommend reading the earlier parts first. I had finished my third book by stating that I would not publish any more parts unless there was more progress to report. I didn't expect it at the time, but it happened! That's why in the fall of 2022 I published three new episodes of my diary in a short time and this is the later German translation. I have the diagnosis, have been in transition for a year and of course I have continued to write my diary and reached a point where publishing makes sense again. The speed of my progress has increased and my social transition is more than halfway. This part covers the period between May and July 2022."

"Confronting different people and places has taught me to understand and accept diversity, but above all, it has made me become a curiosity junkie. This is the conclusion Camila reaches after verifying that her son has always felt the desire to be a girl.

In fact, far from putting any obstacle or obstacle, Camila decides to take her son's hand and help him during the process of searching for his own identity, a path during which they will have to face numerous prejudices and the lack of information that characterize the world around them."

Ernesto Rubio Sánchez - La torre de marfil 2

Original title: "La torre de marfil 2: Experiencias de una niña transsexual" (The Ivory Tower: Experiences of a Transsexual Girl 2) by Ernesto Rubio Sánchez.

"This second part of "La torre de marfil" invites the reading public to fully delve into the development of the central character's life, accompanying her from her childhood to her adulthood in the midst of the Movida Madrileña and in a time marked by discrimination where there was no concept of transsexuality and all sexual behavior towards the same gender was synonymous with AIDS.

Within this medium, our character will try to assert her right to live as she perceives herself. Can she make it? And if so, in an environment that will demand her courage, conviction and militancy, will she enjoy the same rights as everyone else or will she continue to be a second-class citizen? However, this fight does not end on the last page of this installment; In the next one, titled Ramón is my daughter, the characters and their stories will mature, always trying to manage their lives in a society that, despite proclaiming itself progressive, still hides the prejudice of a divided world."
